This is a great project to build students’ motor control as they learn to use their hands as an artistic tool.
Students learn many new techniques as well as build upon skills they will use all year in art class.
Students learned how to divide their clay into even parts as they created coils for building other clay objects.
Learning to create a sphere is also a difficult task since it requires the students to use their hands in new ways they may not be accustomed to doing.
Students also explored braiding their clay coils together.
These new skills will be revisited during the school year for students to increase their skill, knowledge and technique in this media of clay.
It is also a fun project that everyone loves at the beginning of the year!
