Kindergarten students listened to the story of Katie’s Picture Show by James Mayhew.
Students heard about Katie’s first visit to the art gallery with Grandma where she discovers that art is wonderfully exciting, especially when five famous paintings come alive for her!
Katie spends the day enjoying The Hay Wain by John Constable, Madame Moitessier Seated by Ingres, Les Parapluies by Renoir, Tropical Storm with a Tiger by Rousseau, and Dynamic Suprematism by Kaimir Malevich.
Kindergarten students then drew their favorite images from the story.
Everyone enjoyed creating their own images of Katie’s Picture Show.
This was a great project for students to engage their listening and drawing skills together as they reinterpreted the story.
Here are some examples of their illustrations.
