First grade students have been learning how to create heart stencils using symmetry.
The first step was to fold the tag board in half and draw half of a heart shape.
The next step was to cut out the half heart, which became a whole when the tag board was unfolded.
First graders had several options to create their hearts from their stencils.
Students could trace around the outside of the heart shape.
This process required a lot of focus from the students.
Other students added color to the inside of their designs.
Everyone had lots of fun exploring many new methods of creating hearts and making stencils.
Here are some examples of the students’ work.
