SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Sixth grade students created paper flowers for Mother’s Day this year.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

At the beginning of this project students were not sure if they would like it, some of them feeling they may be too old for this type of a project.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

By the end of this studio class everyone was really focused and enjoyed the project.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

This flower building required the students to follow directions and use their hands to fold and mold a medium-size flower.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

This project required the students to focus their efforts as they used their motor skills with this basic paper craft project.

Students were happy with their efforts at the end of art class.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Sixth grade students recently completed their bug project.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Everyone was busy adding finishing touches to their 3D bugs made from cylinders.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Most of the students tried many innovative methods in the building of their projects.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Many students inspired each other with their building ideas.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Students became very thoughtful towards the completion of this project on the look of their bugs.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Although slow to engage with the project, the students finally found their vision for creating 3D bugs.

Bug building

Standard

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Sixth grade students have been developing bugs from 3D shapes.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

After researching bugs and the shape of bugs, students were given a cylinder to use to create their bug.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Everyone had different ideas on how to begin building a 3D shape.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Most students began with painting their cylinder.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

As the process of building continued the students’ creativity grew.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Everyone worked at a different pace, fostering an environment of mutual encouragement.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Students were required to do problem solving as they built their bugs.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

There were many collaborations during the creative process as students aided each other.  I am looking forward to seeing their completed creations.

Painting snowflakes

Standard

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Fourth grade and sixth grade students worked on snowflake paintings based on micro-photographs of actual snowflakes.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Students outlined the snowflake drawings with sharpie markers for a permanent line.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Next the students added a watercolor wash to the background for a deeper color.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Students then added several layers of white acrylic paint over their snowflake drawings.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

This required the students to focus and build their brush skills as they fill in the flakes with white acrylic.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

The final step was to add a coat of gloss to seal their image for display.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Here are some examples of their paintings now on display at Willard Elementary School.

Process

Standard

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Sixth grade art students are in the process of creating their 3D animal masks.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Some students are working from a balloon shell that was created from paper mache and then cut in half.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Other students are working from cardboard and creating their mask from cardboard shapes they are putting together.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

This has been a difficult project for students to think through the building process and design in the third dimension.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

The process of creating always sounds fun but in reality it is hard work to try something that is new and unfamiliar and to stretch oneself in new directions.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

I am excited  to see how the students continue to work and resolve their creative problems while building their masks.

Paper mache

Standard

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Sixth grade students are learning to paper mache as they work to create animal masks.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Everyone seems to enjoy the messy process of adding paste to paper and covering a balloon.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Students have been designing an animal mask they wish to create.  After their initial design work paper mache is their next step.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

The sixth graders have been discovering that creating a mask is a project that keeps you constantly learning new processes.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Everyone is excited about learning this new process and moving forward with their mask project.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Students added color to their paintings after adding collage elements to their work.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Everyone enjoyed the spray painting elements that were added to their images.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Each group added final shapes of color to their images to bring their paintings to a conclusion.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Students worked as a team to add many layers of information to their mixed media paintings.

Here are some examples of their work.
