Dot to dot leaves

Beginnings

Our first project of the 2016-2017 school year began with building.

Kindergarten students explored building with 3D geometric shapes.

Everyone was fully engaged as they explored building towers, castles and houses of the future.

Learning through play builds skills that young artists use throughout their educational experience.  It’s great to start art off with fun!

Cards

Standard

Most of the elementary art students participated in creating some type card for Mother’s Day this year.

Kindergarten students used colored pencils to create line pattern with their Mother’s Day card.

First graders used scissors and crayons to create a pop-out card for their moms.

Third grade students created an M-shaped card for Mother’s Day.

Watercolor flowers

Standard

Kindergarten and first grade students completed their study of color by creating watercolor flowers.

The first step was to add color and line to their flower shapes with crayon.

Some students used line to outline their shape.

Others filled in their flowers with lines and shapes.

Everyone enjoyed the process of adding color and design to their flowers.

Colors of the Rainbow

Standard

Kindergarten and first grade students explored the rainbow through the use of primary and secondary colors.

Egg-citing art

Shamrock shapes

Standard

Kindergarten and first grade students have been exploring the shamrock shape.

Students first cut out a shamrock stencil shape.

After cutting out the stencil, students transferred the shape to green construction paper to make their own shamrock.

After creating their own shamrocks, students created a shamrock person.

Again students used their stencils to create their shamrock cartoon characters.

Multicolored hearts

Kindergarten and first grade students explored creating stencil designs with hearts.

After creating a heart stencil with a positive and negative shape, students explored adding color.

Hearts for learning

Standard

Kindergarten students explored the heart shape as they learned how to create a heart shaped stencil.

Students developed their cutting skills in this project as they folded and cut out a heart shape.

Cutting is a difficult skill to master, and everyone builds their skills with this project.

The next step is to use the stencil to create heart shapes.

This step requires focus and the use of two hands in the drawing and tracing process.

Finally students have the opportunity to create many colors and textures on their hearts.

Christmas trees

Standard

Kindergarten students created a mixed media Christmas tree this year before going on break.

Everyone enjoyed learning to use a paint brush to create an evergreen tree.

The next step was to cut out their tree.

This required the students to follow with their eyes as their hands worked the scissors across the paper.
