Neon flowers

Second grade students created neon flowers in the manner of Georgia O’Keeffe.

Students were divided into groups and, after viewing work by the artist Georgia O’Keeffe, began drawing large flowers.

Every group worked cooperatively.

After drawing their flowers, students moved to marker to enhance their pencil work.

The students worked very well together to complete this stage of their images.

Next students employed neon crayons.

Each group decided which areas to color and not to color with crayon.

The second graders worked hard to add rich color with the neon crayons.

The final step was to add liquid watercolor.

Students used related colors and worked to dry the remaining paint away with towels.

Character words

Fourth grade students completed their paintings of character words.

After adding finishing touches to their letter paintings, each group discussed their work.

The final step was to add a coat of gloss to their canvas.

Students really enjoyed working cooperatively on this project.

Each class viewed their work at the end of the project.

Everyone participated in a review of their work and the  creative process.

Students were proud of the fact their work will be on view in the building for all to see.

 

Everyone engaged in the learning process for this project.

Cards

Most of the elementary art students participated in creating some type card for Mother’s Day this year.

Kindergarten students used colored pencils to create line pattern with their Mother’s Day card.

First graders used scissors and crayons to create a pop-out card for their moms.

Second grade students created a cut out Mom card.

Third grade students created an M-shaped card for Mother’s Day.

Everyone concentrated on creating the perfect card for Mom!

All of the students incorporated learned skills and some new ones to create a card filled with design elements.

I’m sure every mom was thrilled with their uniquely created card for Mother’s Day!

Watercolor flowers

Kindergarten and first grade students completed their study of color by creating watercolor flowers.

The first step was to add color and line to their flower shapes with crayon.

Some students used line to outline their shape.

Others filled in their flowers with lines and shapes.

Everyone enjoyed the process of adding color and design to their flowers.

Next everyone added watercolor paint.

Students learned to add water and allow the water and paint to mix.

Some students outlined their flower with a pattern.

Everyone had a unique idea on how to incorporate the watercolor into their flower.

Everyone enjoyed exploring this new medium.

Colors of the Rainbow

Kindergarten and first grade students explored the rainbow through the use of primary and secondary colors.

Students used watercolor paints to explore the rainbow.

Everyone learned about the colors of the rainbow.

Students learned about the primary and secondary colors and how they are part of the rainbow.

Everyone enjoyed the painting process.

After completing the painting process, students used crayons to add details to their paintings.

Students added clouds and the sun to their rainbow image.

All of the students were very focused during their studio time.

Everyone also had a great time in art!

Shamrock shapes

Kindergarten and first grade students have been exploring the shamrock shape.

Students first cut out a shamrock stencil shape.

After cutting out the stencil, students transferred the shape to green construction paper to make their own shamrock.

After creating their own shamrocks, students created a shamrock person.

Again students used their stencils to create their shamrock cartoon characters.

Everyone was excited to use their imaginations as they made their shamrock people.

Students also enjoyed using crayons and markers to complete their drawings.

3D Bugs

Sixth grade students recently completed their bug project.

Everyone was busy adding finishing touches to their 3D bugs made from cylinders.

Most of the students tried many innovative methods in the building of their projects.

Many students inspired each other with their building ideas.

Students became very thoughtful towards the completion of this project on the look of their bugs.

Although slow to engage with the project, the students finally found their vision for creating 3D bugs.

Bug building

Sixth grade students have been developing bugs from 3D shapes.

After researching bugs and the shape of bugs, students were given a cylinder to use to create their bug.

Everyone had different ideas on how to begin building a 3D shape.

Most students began with painting their cylinder.

As the process of building continued the students’ creativity grew.

Everyone worked at a different pace, fostering an environment of mutual encouragement.

Students were required to do problem solving as they built their bugs.

There were many collaborations during the creative process as students aided each other.  I am looking forward to seeing their completed creations.

Christmas trees

Kindergarten students created a mixed media Christmas tree this year before going on break.

Everyone enjoyed learning to use a paint brush to create an evergreen tree.

All of the students enjoyed this process and moving the paint around!

The next step was to cut out their tree.

This required the students to follow with their eyes as their hands worked the scissors across the paper.

After cutting out their trees, students glued them to a blue background where they added color and glitter.

Reindeer portraits

For our last project before Christmas break first grade students created a reindeer portrait.

The first step was to draw large with a pencil using basic shapes.

The next step was to trace over the drawing with a black sharpie marker.

After tracing with a maker, students erased any remaining pencil marks.

The next step was to add color to the portrait with crayons.

Everyone decided which colors would be right for their reindeer portrait.

The students were thrilled with their portraits.

The final step was to cut out their portrait and glue it to a solid background of green construction paper.
