Neon flowers

Standard

Second grade students created neon flowers in the manner of Georgia O’Keeffe.

Students were divided into groups and, after viewing work by the artist Georgia O’Keeffe, began drawing large flowers.

After drawing their flowers, students moved to marker to enhance their pencil work.

Each group decided which areas to color and not to color with crayon.

The final step was to add liquid watercolor.

Character words

Standard

Most of the elementary art students participated in creating some type card for Mother’s Day this year.

Watercolor flowers

Colors of the Rainbow

Shamrock shapes

Kindergarten and first grade students have been exploring the shamrock shape.

Students first cut out a shamrock stencil shape.

After cutting out the stencil, students transferred the shape to green construction paper to make their own shamrock.

3D Bugs

Sixth grade students recently completed their bug project.

Everyone was busy adding finishing touches to their 3D bugs made from cylinders.

Most of the students tried many innovative methods in the building of their projects.

Bug building

Sixth grade students have been developing bugs from 3D shapes.

After researching bugs and the shape of bugs, students were given a cylinder to use to create their bug.

Everyone had different ideas on how to begin building a 3D shape.

Most students began with painting their cylinder.

As the process of building continued the students’ creativity grew.

Everyone worked at a different pace, fostering an environment of mutual encouragement.

Students were required to do problem solving as they built their bugs.

There were many collaborations during the creative process as students aided each other.  I am looking forward to seeing their completed creations.

Christmas trees

Kindergarten students created a mixed media Christmas tree this year before going on break.

Everyone enjoyed learning to use a paint brush to create an evergreen tree.

This required the students to follow with their eyes as their hands worked the scissors across the paper.

Reindeer portraits

For our last project before Christmas break first grade students created a reindeer portrait.

The first step was to draw large with a pencil using basic shapes.

The next step was to trace over the drawing with a black sharpie marker.

After tracing with a maker, students erased any remaining pencil marks.

The next step was to add color to the portrait with crayons.

Everyone decided which colors would be right for their reindeer portrait.
