Second grade students have been learning about the art element of line.
One way students learned about line was exploring how to use a ruler.
Everyone used pencil to create some repeating line in a pattern.
After feeling comfortable with the pencil, students moved on to colored pencil with repeating lines.
Second graders also explored line with scissors.
Everyone learned there are many ways and tools to use line in creating art.
Sixth grade students created paper flowers for Mother’s Day this year.
At the beginning of this project students were not sure if they would like it, some of them feeling they may be too old for this type of a project.
By the end of this studio class everyone was really focused and enjoyed the project.
This flower building required the students to follow directions and use their hands to fold and mold a medium-size flower.
This project required the students to focus their efforts as they used their motor skills with this basic paper craft project.
Students were happy with their efforts at the end of art class.
Many colorful flowers were created for Mother’s Day!
Most of the elementary art students participated in creating some type card for Mother’s Day this year.
Kindergarten students used colored pencils to create line pattern with their Mother’s Day card.
First graders used scissors and crayons to create a pop-out card for their moms.
Second grade students created a cut out Mom card.
Third grade students created an M-shaped card for Mother’s Day.
Everyone concentrated on creating the perfect card for Mom!
All of the students incorporated learned skills and some new ones to create a card filled with design elements.
I’m sure every mom was thrilled with their uniquely created card for Mother’s Day!
Kindergarten and first grade students have been exploring the shamrock shape.
Students first cut out a shamrock stencil shape.
After cutting out the stencil, students transferred the shape to green construction paper to make their own shamrock.
After creating their own shamrocks, students created a shamrock person.
Again students used their stencils to create their shamrock cartoon characters.
Everyone was excited to use their imaginations as they made their shamrock people.
Students also enjoyed using crayons and markers to complete their drawings.

Fifth grade students have been exploring collage through the medium of digital photography.
Students began with taking self portraits in black and white on a neutral background.
Students photographed their partners in sections, focusing on parts of the face instead of creating a whole portrait.
The next step was to look at all of the images they had to work with on their collage.
After viewing the work of artist David Hockney and others who created collages from digital portraits, the students set to work on their own creations.
Everyone had different ideas on how to process their collage.
Most students had fun with this open-ended collage project.
The final step was to glue down their images onto poster board. The process was much like creating a puzzle of themselves.

Third graders explored paper craft as they used layers of hearts to create a Valentine design.
Students were given a variety of tools to use for their creative endeavor.
Many decisions were made during the process of creating their images for someone they love and appreciate.
Everyone enjoyed the freedom of creating a project to give to someone they appreciate. Every art project has many layers to the creative process as the third grade discovered this week.
Kindergarten and first grade students explored creating stencil designs with hearts.
After creating a heart stencil with a positive and negative shape, students explored adding color.
First graders focused on creating texture with their designs.
Kindergarten students explored combining colors together for their hearts.
Everyone loved the opportunity to explore new ways of creating heart designs.
There are a multitude of creative ways to use stencils, and everyone learned to make and create with them in art class.
Kindergarten students explored the heart shape as they learned how to create a heart shaped stencil.
Students developed their cutting skills in this project as they folded and cut out a heart shape.
Cutting is a difficult skill to master, and everyone builds their skills with this project.
The next step is to use the stencil to create heart shapes.
This step requires focus and the use of two hands in the drawing and tracing process.
Finally students have the opportunity to create many colors and textures on their hearts.
All of the students love the opportunity to express themselves with many new types of art materials.

Third grade students completed their shoe projects recently.
Students added color to their ink drawings of shoes.
Students picked related colors from the color wheel, also known as analogous, to create color harmony in their image.
After completing coloring with crayon, students cut out their shoes.
The final step was to pick a background to complement their shoe image.
Students took care in adding final details to their images.

Our first project back after Christmas break was creating snowflakes.
Students learned the steps to basic paper folding for a kirigami snowflake.
This project required the students to focus, follow directions and learn to control the paper as an art medium.
After folding the paper for a four point snowflake, students explored cutting out various shapes to create their snowflake.
As students reviewed their skills through the process of creating the paper sculptures, they grew confident in their abilities.
Everyone was happy with the skills they developed through the making of snowflakes.
Art class allows students the opportunity to combine learning many subjects and using many new tools and skills to build a holistic learner.
