Honoring

Standard

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Fourth and fifth grade students created a collective series of work to honor veterans for Veterans Day this year.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Students created the Ohio flag.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

They also made a flag of the United States.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Students also created a poster for the army, navy , air force, marines and the coast guard.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

After drawing the design and tracing it with marker, students added a wash of watercolor paint for the background.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

After retracing the poster with marker, students began to use dots of paint in a pointillistic manner.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Every group began adding dots of color to their art work.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Collectively the work began to take shape as dots and colors began to fill in the design.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

It was fun to watch the students take ownership of their work as their skills increased.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

All of the students were introduced to new art techniques and design ideas as they worked cooperatively on this project.

Lettering

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Fourth grade students have been working on a lettering project.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Each forth grade class has been working on a character word that will be displayed in the school.

Each class has six groups, and each group is responsible for one of the letters in the word.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Everyone has been busy working on the background and the subject, which is the letter.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Students have been using and learning about complementary colors as they explore masking out the letter they paint.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

The project is teaching the students to work cooperatively.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Here are a couple of examples of the students’ work before we begin to add texture to the background of their work.

Arbor Day

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Fifth grade students recently participated in the City of Willard’s Arbor Day poster contest.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

The poster contest was sponsored by the Willard Tree Commission.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Students were given the theme “Trees are good for life.”

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

After learning about Arbor Day, students created three ideas and picked their best idea for their poster.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Lettering was a large part of the students’ design for their posters.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Everyone had a variety of materials to choose from to create their poster.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

I was very proud of the hard work most everyone put into their posters.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

This was a great project for the students to become aware of their community and environment and how they have a part in their local community.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Students also learned about the process it takes to come up with an idea and turn it into a poster to educate their community.

Lettering

Standard

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

One of our beginning projects each year is lettering.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Lettering is a basic drawing skill that builds the skills of each student.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Students explored block and bubble styles of lettering.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Lettering is the act or process of inscribing with or making letters.  It is a basic way of learning to communicate visually and an important skill for students to develop.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Students will use their skills in our upcoming fire safety poster contest this year.

Window art

Standard

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Students began our new year by adding their name to the windows in front of the new art room.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

We used Crayola window markers for the first time this year as everyone used some type of lettering to add their name to our window.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

The marker wipes off very easily and shows up very bright.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

It was fun to explore a new medium in a new space as we begin a new year.

Love

Standard

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Fourth grade students recently completed their cooperative painting project based on Robert Indiana’s Love paintings.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

After completing the background, students added color to their love letters with watercolor paint.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Every group had a different approach to the lettering.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Next students added crayon shavings to their image to incorporate a melted crayon effect.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

For the final step, after some evaluation, students added color to the background of their images.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

The fourth graders learned to work together to create a wonderful image.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Students explored the idea that love has different meanings and examined the ideas the artist might have had for using the word love.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Everyone had an enjoyable time exploring new mediums and concepts through the artwork based on Robert Indiana.

Putting it together

Standard

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Sixth graders added shape and letters to their images this studio session.

Students picked a letter shape to add in part or whole to their project.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Everyone was busy adding finishing touches to their image before adding paint next session.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

With direction everyone became focused in the short session they have in art each Friday.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

It was great to see everyone stretch their creative ideas in new ways.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

After a busy studio session students will reflect on their work and add paint to their projects next week.
