Many Faces

First grade students completed a unit on drawing the human figure this spring.

Everyone created many drawings with pencil.

Next ink was added to their portraits.

The final step was to add a wash of color to their drawings.

Students used either warm colors for their watercolor wash or cool colors.

Everyone enjoyed being part of the creative process.

Although this was a challenging project for students, they really pushed themselves and grew through the process.

1st grade Portraits

First grade students recently began a drawing unit learning to create portraits.

Students learned about the various shapes of facial features as they began exploring the drawing process.

First graders also explored the concepts of size and proportion as they learned to draw portraits.

Everyone learned to use an eraser for a drawing tool, not just to correct mistakes.

Learning to focus on drawing shapes and put them together to create a portrait is a fun challenge for the first graders.

Students did a great job learning the basic skills of drawing portraits.
