Kindergarten, first and fourth grade students explored the concept of texture with a heart design.
Each group of students approached the design problem in a different manner.
Kindergarten students were introduced to the concept of texture and what exactly it is.
First grade students reinforced their ideas of what texture is and how to create it.
Fourth grade students created their own types of texture and used mixed media to create various types of texture.
Visual texture is the illusion of having physical texture. Every material and every support surface has its own visual texture and needs to be taken into consideration before creating a composition. Texture in these media are generally created by the repetition of shape and line.
Finally students added a wash of watercolor to their textured heart designs.
Everyone loves the painting process, and liquid watercolor is a great medium for intense color.
This project required a lot of focus and concentration, yet every grade enjoyed this exercise in color, design and texture.
Here are some examples of the students’ work.
